BenchStep
About BenchStep

Twenty years of elearning,
rebuilt as a single platform.

BenchStep is a new learning platform from a team that has spent two decades delivering elearning services and operating training platforms for organisations across corporate, government, and education.

Our vision

What gets measured, gets managed.

For most of the last two decades, learning has been measured by the wrong things. Hours logged. Modules ticked. Courses marked complete. None of those numbers tell an organisation whether anyone learned anything — only whether they showed up.

We've watched serious training programmes get reduced to compliance theatre because that's what the dashboards rewarded. We've watched expensive LMS implementations sit half-used because the platforms optimised for the wrong outcomes. And we've watched genuinely capable people fail at jobs they were "trained" for, because the training never asked them to actually do anything.

BenchStep exists to change what gets measured — and therefore, what gets managed.

The right LMS doesn't measure activity. It measures capability. The first is easy. The second is the whole point.

How we got here

Built from two decades of customer feedback.

The team behind BenchStep has been in the elearning space for twenty years — building custom courses, deploying LMS platforms, and operating training infrastructure for clients across corporate L&D, government, and education.

Across those years we've heard the same complaints from training leads, again and again: their LMS makes simple tasks hard. Reporting is shallow. AI features feel bolted on. Implementation takes months, not weeks. And every platform optimises for completions, when what their leadership actually wants to know is whether their people can do the work.

BenchStep is the platform we wished those clients had been able to buy. It's built from scratch — not as a refresh of a legacy product, but as a deliberate rebuild based on what we've learned about what works, what doesn't, and what organisations actually need from a modern learning platform.

Two decades of customer feedback, in product form.

What we stand for

Four principles that shape how we build.

These aren't aspirations. They're the trade-offs we make when product decisions get hard.

Outcomes over completions.

Most learning platforms optimise for completion rates because that's what dashboards reward. A finished course means little if the learner can't apply the skill. We build for what learners can actually do — not just what they ticked off.

Built with operators, not for them.

Twenty years of running training programmes for clients taught us what frustrated them about every LMS they bought. BenchStep is built from those frustrations — what should have worked, what got in the way, and what was missing entirely.

Learning is serious work.

Gamification and badges have their place — they're tools, not goals. We build for organisations that treat training as a real investment in capability, not a compliance checkbox or an HR ritual.

Honest about what AI can do.

AI accelerates real work — generating drafts, surfacing patterns, automating busywork. It doesn't replace pedagogical judgement. We use AI where it earns its place in the workflow, not where it lets us pad a feature list.
