by FAST Rescue
Effective communication is the foundation of strong workplace relationships, productive teamwork, and successful conflict resolution. The Communication: Building Understanding and Trust online training course provides learners with practical strategies for communicating clearly, professionally, and respectfully while strengthening trust and mutual understanding in everyday workplace interactions. Learners will explore the key principles of effective communication, including active listening, respectful language, accountability, participation, and adapting communication styles to different situations. The course examines verbal, non-verbal, written, and electronic communication and provides practical guidance for professional email communication, including clear subject lines, concise messaging, appropriate tone, timely responses, and common email mistakes to avoid. A major focus of the training is developing stronger listening skills. Participants learn to recognize common barriers to listening and explore three levels of listening: empathetic listening, informational listening, and listening in spurts. The course emphasizes active and empathetic listening techniques such as observing verbal and non-verbal cues, asking clarifying questions, paraphrasing key points, reflecting feelings, and listening to understand rather than simply preparing a response. These skills help reduce misunderstandings, encourage people to open up, and build trust. Learners are also introduced to the FETA Model—Feelings, Expectations, Thoughts, and Agreement—as a structured approach to responding clearly and professionally. The training concludes with strategies for reducing conflict through active listening, professionalism, empathy, clear expectations, and a solution-focused approach. This course is suitable for employees, supervisors, managers, and anyone who wants to improve workplace communication, collaboration, and professional relationships.
